Feature Film: "Love Among The Exiles"
Format: 35mm Feature Film, Genre: Period Drama

LOGLINE: Against the starkly contrasting worlds of Hollywood and Europe 1946-50, the music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold underscores the inescapable power of destiny in the lives of four people.

PRECIS: Two emigres--German film director Friedrich, and his Austrian wife, Warner Brothers star Claudia--are a wealthy and successful couple who live a glamorous but empty life in the movie business of postwar Los Angeles. There's little more to their lives than sun, soundstages, parties within a stifling circle of emigre friends and the eternal search for American bread that doesn't taste like cotton.

But the superficial tranquillity of their existence is churned into sudden chaos when two new American visitors, Friedrich's writer protege David, and Charlotte's naive, enigmatic young assistant Sophie, provoke unexpected attraction, forbidden love--and a disastrous return to Europe.

Set in Europe between the wars - a time of high art and literature, great corruption and greed - the story takes place in the opulent bedroom of Cynthia, a hired killer of men, as she prepares in front of the mirror for another hit. Burning her map and instructions, she puts on make up, a hat and prepares her weapon of choice: an old fashion straight edge razor. Facing the mirror, she ponders the events that led to this life of killing. Worn out and tired, she slips into a black hole of guilt, until she's interrupted by a mysterious knock on the door.
